Our Projects
Palava H.U.T.
Palava H.U.T. is an open forum conducted in various locations in Liberian and Liberian communities across the US. The acronym H.U.T. stands for Hearing, Understanding, and Teaching. The goal of the Palava H.U.T. is to allow community members to be informed, provide feedback, and create teachers within our communities.
My Childhood, Your Future March
HEAL hosted its first annual peaceful march in Monrovia to encourage children to be their own advocates and remind them of the power of their voice. The day was dedicated to the children of Liberia. It was a chance for them to express themselves, be heard and PLAY!
Safe Touch, Unsafe Touch
“Safe Touch, Unsafe Touch” is a culturally sensitive workshop designed by HEAL. This workshop teaches children to differentiate pedophiliac interest versus friendliness. It teaches parents and children what to do should they become a victim of rape and/or sexual assault. It also teaches parents ways to recognize signs of abuse.
Community Outreach
HEAL takes advantage of multiple forums to engage the public and deal with current events. This includes appearances on radio shows, newspaper articles, and collaboration in community events such as the Miss Liberia, USA pageant, and the Young Liberia Youth summit. HEAL hosted its first annual “reason for the season” Christmas party in 2014 in West Point, Liberia. HEAL founder, Mawata Kamara, co- hosted and acted as a guest speaker on radio programs such as Radio Liberia and WURD FM in Philadelphia. HEAL also fundraised and provided food and basic necessities for two shelters for victims of sexual assault during the lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our T-Shirt Campaign
“The Proof is in the DNA” is an awareness campaign started by HEAL to encourage community members engagement.
